Mid and South Essex NHS cuts 250 jobs and avoids temp staff to fix £85M deficit, prioritizing patient care.
The Mid and South Essex NHS Foundation Trust, operating hospitals in Southend, Basildon, and Broomfield, is cutting costs to address a projected £85 million deficit for 2025/26.
As part of a broader plan to save £118 million, the trust advised against using temporary bank staff in non-clinical roles during the final week of September, though essential personnel remain unaffected.
The effort includes 250 additional job cuts, following 683 last year, and involves financial recovery specialist Phillip Burns, who has experience in NHS turnaround efforts.
The trust remains in the NHS’s National Recovery Support Programme and stresses that patient safety and care quality are priorities while using public funds responsibly.
