Israeli authorities have arrested Yaakov Perl, a 49-year-old American-Israeli dual citizen, on suspicion of spying for Iran.
The Shin Bet and police say Perl, who lived in Morocco, contacted Iranian officials in 2017 and later published anti-Israel content, including support for Hezbollah in January 2024.
After being approached by Iranian operatives, he traveled to Israel in July to gather intelligence on public figures and locations, taking photos and videos.
He was reportedly paid in cryptocurrency and motivated by ideological opposition to Zionism.
The case is part of a larger investigation into Iran-linked espionage, with over 25 cases and nearly 46 arrests since October 7.
