On the 11th anniversary of the Make in India initiative, Union Minister Piyush Goyal and Prime Minister Narendra Modi highlighted its success in transforming India into a major global manufacturing hub. Launched in 2014, the program has driven record foreign investment, improved business conditions, and boosted production across sectors like electronics, defense, and automobiles. India is now the world’s second-largest mobile manufacturer, with significant growth in domestic production and exports. The government’s Production Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme has spurred investments and job creation, while the startup ecosystem has emerged as the third-largest globally. Key achievements include increased defense manufacturing, progress in semiconductor production, and a surge in electronics output. The initiative continues under Make in India 2.0, targeting 27 sectors to advance self-reliance and support India’s goal of becoming a developed nation.
