India revoked SECMOL's FCRA license on Sept. 25, 2025, over alleged fund violations and links to unrest in Leh.
The Indian government revoked the FCRA license of SECMOL, the Ladakh-based organization founded by activist Sonam Wangchuk, citing multiple alleged violations including improper fund deposits, receipt of foreign funds without authorization, and poor recordkeeping.
The move, effective September 25, 2025, follows a CBI probe and comes amid unrest in Leh linked to a hunger strike demanding statehood and Sixth Schedule status.
The Home Ministry accused Wangchuk of inciting violence through public statements, a claim he denies, while SECMOL maintained it only received fees for international knowledge-sharing, not donations.
The cancellation bars the group from receiving foreign funding until compliance issues are resolved.
