A former Olympic sailing trainee sues Sail Canada and Sail Nova Scotia, alleging sexual assault, ignored reporting, retaliation, and a cover-up, seeking $9 million in damages.
A former Nova Scotia Olympic sailing trainee is suing Sail Canada and Sail Nova Scotia, alleging she was sexually assaulted in July 2024 by a teammate while coaching and training.
She claims she reported the incident 10 days later to both organizations, but says they ignored her, retaliated by cutting her off from team activities, and failed to report the assault to national ethics or integrity bodies.
The lawsuit, filed in Ontario’s Superior Court, accuses the organizations of a cover-up, ongoing harassment, and failure to protect her, seeking $9 million in damages.
Both organizations say they will cooperate with the legal process and affirm their commitment to athlete safety and inclusion.
The Royal Nova Scotia Yacht Squadron declined to comment due to ongoing litigation.
The allegations remain unproven in court.
