Former Nebraska liquor official indicted for taking bribes, sex, and free drinks to protect strip clubs.
Former Nebraska Liquor Control Commission executive director Hobert Rupe was indicted on federal corruption charges, including honest services fraud, wire fraud, and extortion, for allegedly accepting cash, sexual favors, and free drinks from strip club owner Brent Zywiec in exchange for protecting two Lincoln clubs from scrutiny.
The indictment alleges Rupe used his authority to shield Zywiec’s businesses, ignore violations, and help shut down competitors, while also accessing dancer information and using coded language to discuss payments and arrangements.
Rupe, who served from 2004 until resigning in June 2025, is accused of failing to report gifts and using his position for personal gain.
The FBI led a yearlong investigation, resulting in arrests and a public condemnation from federal and state officials who called the alleged actions a breach of public trust.
The case remains active in federal court.
