The Conservation Fund bought 480 acres in Colorado to restore public access to a popular 8-mile alpine trail.
The Conservation Fund has bought 480 acres in Park County, Colorado, near the popular DeCaLiBron Loop trail, to restore public access to a stretch of the 8-mile route connecting four 14,000-foot peaks.
The land, which includes critical wildlife habitat, rare alpine plants, and the South Platte River’s headwaters, will be transferred to the U.S. Forest Service by year’s end to become part of the Pike-San Isabel National Forest.
The purchase follows previous efforts to secure access, addresses past trail closures due to private land ownership, and supports conservation and recreation.
The trail, used by 15,000 to 20,000 hikers annually, remains a key outdoor destination near Denver.
The sale terms were not disclosed to protect the landowner’s privacy.
