Chicago cop indicted for using badge to buy guns later sent to Mexico.
Chicago police officer Kevin Rodriguez, 27, has been indicted on federal charges for allegedly using his badge to buy an AR-15-style rifle and handgun in Indiana and Illinois in 2024, falsely claiming he was the buyer.
Prosecutors say he transferred the weapons to Diego Valdez, 25, who smuggled them into Mexico, with Valdez paying over $2,600 via Zelle.
Rodriguez faces charges including conspiracy, false statements on firearm forms, and purchasing firearms for another person in furtherance of a felony.
Both men pleaded not guilty, were released on bond, and are scheduled for a status hearing on October 8, 2025.
Rodriguez has been on unpaid leave since July and stripped of police powers; the Chicago Police Department has launched an internal investigation and has no tolerance for misconduct.
