Screening rates now stand at 64% for Māori and 61% for Pacific women, though disparities persist, with about 13% of Pacific women never screened.
Nationally, 74.5% of eligible women were screened by July 2025, up from 70% in 2024.
Progress is attributed to collaborative efforts by WellSouth, the National Cervical Screening Programme, and community providers, including mobile clinics, marae-based events, self-testing—chosen by 81% of participants—and telehealth support.
A new regional contract aims to strengthen outreach and equity, particularly for underserved populations, to reduce cervical cancer risk.
