Catherine West is stepping down as Nine Entertainment chair, succeeded by Peter Tonagh.
Catherine West is stepping down as chair of Nine Entertainment at the company’s November 7 annual general meeting, less than 18 months after her appointment.
She succeeded Peter Costello following a public incident and led a cultural overhaul, appointed new CEO Matt Stanton, and oversaw the sale of Domain.
West, who joined the board in 2016, faced investor skepticism over her independence, including a 17% vote against her re-election and opposition from Australia’s Future Fund.
She will be succeeded by Peter Tonagh, a media veteran and former CEO of News Corp Australia and Foxtel, who joined Nine’s board in January and is also chair of Quantium.
Tonagh praised West’s leadership during a transformative period and pledged to focus on long-term shareholder value.
The transition marks the final phase of a broader leadership and cultural reset at the ASX-listed media company.
