Bollywood star Salman Khan reveals his seven-year struggle with severe facial pain from trigeminal neuralgia, treated successfully with surgery in 2011.
Bollywood actor Salman Khan has shared his seven-and-a-half-year battle with trigeminal neuralgia, a severe nerve condition causing intense, recurring facial pain described as worse than anything he’d wish on an enemy.
First noticed during filming of Partner in 2007, the pain struck with minimal triggers like a light touch and made everyday tasks excruciating.
Initially misdiagnosed as a dental issue, he found little relief from painkillers and relied temporarily on alcohol for comfort.
In 2011, he underwent an eight-hour gamma knife surgery, which ultimately provided complete relief despite initial low expectations.
He now lives with a permanent arteriovenous malformation and a brain aneurysm but continues working.
His goal in speaking out is to raise awareness about the often-underrecognized condition and encourage early diagnosis and treatment.
