Black Button Distilling avoids bankruptcy with new investment, resuming production and keeping staff.
Black Button Distilling in Rochester, N.Y., has secured a new investment from Blackstar Company, a Kentucky-based firm led by Kris Comstock, averting bankruptcy after closing its University Avenue tasting room in July 2025 due to financial challenges.
The funding, driven by Comstock’s friendship with founder Jason Barrett, allows the distillery to resume production of its signature spirits, including bourbon, rye, vodka, gin, and Bourbon Cream, while retaining all nine full-time employees.
Though the tasting room remains closed, the company will continue selling products at local farmers’ markets.
The partnership ensures ongoing operations under Barrett’s leadership, with added industry support from Blackstar, bringing relief and optimism to the Rochester community.
