Two Syracuse University students were charged with a hate crime for throwing pork into a Jewish fraternity during Rosh Hashanah.
Two 18-year-old Syracuse University students were charged with a hate crime after allegedly throwing a bag of pork into the Zeta Beta Tau fraternity during a Rosh Hashanah celebration.
The incident, which occurred around 6 p.m. at a historically Jewish fraternity, involved one man entering the building and splattering pork on interior surfaces before fleeing with another man in a vehicle.
Both were quickly arrested and charged with burglary as a hate crime and criminal nuisance.
Authorities, including Onondaga County District Attorney William Fitzpatrick, stated the act was a deliberate targeting of Jewish students observing a sacred holiday and not a prank.
The university condemned the incident, and the investigation into the motive is ongoing.
