State Rep. Shannon Lundgren, R-Peosta, has entered the Republican primary race for Iowa’s 2nd Congressional District, following U.S. Rep. Ashley Hinson’s decision to run for the U.S. Senate.
Lundgren, a five-term Iowa House member and small-business owner, highlighted her long-standing support for former President Donald Trump and her conservative legislative record on issues including abortion restrictions, immigration enforcement, and limiting transgender rights in sports and facilities.
She emphasized her advocacy for small businesses, tax cuts, and rural America.
Her candidacy adds to a competitive GOP primary that includes former Rep. Rod Blum, state Sen. Charlie McClintock, and former lawmaker Joe Mitchell, while Democrats Lindsay James, Clint Twedt-Ball, and Kathy Dolter are also running.
The district, previously rated “Solid R,” is now seen as “Likely R” in the 2026 race.
