Severe storms damaged a hospital in Sallisaw, Oklahoma, forcing evacuations and causing flooding and road closures.
Severe storms with heavy rain and strong winds hit eastern Oklahoma on Tuesday, September 23, 2025, damaging the Northeastern Health System hospital in Sallisaw by tearing off part of its roof and prompting the evacuation of about nine patients.
No injuries were reported, but water entered the facility, prompting officials to use tarps and sandbags to limit further damage and relocate equipment.
The storms also caused flash flooding in eastern Arkansas, particularly south of Interstate 40, with rainfall rates up to 2 inches per hour.
Fallen trees blocked roads near the hospital, and a nearby road was closed.
Sallisaw, a rural community of about 8,500, remained under weather alert as additional storms were expected.
The hospital did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
