On September 24, 2025, 71 Maoist insurgents, including 30 with bounties totaling ₹64 lakh and several key figures linked to violent clashes since 2011, surrendered in Dantewada, Chhattisgarh, under the state’s Lon Varratu and Puna Margem rehabilitation programs.
The group included 21 women and 50 men, among them prominent cadres like Baman Madkam and Shamila alias Somli Kawasi, who had participated in armed confrontations, sabotage, and blockades.
The surrender, facilitated by coordinated efforts from police, CRPF, and intelligence units, took place at the Dantewada SP office and was supported by senior officials.
Each individual will receive ₹50,000 in financial aid, skill training, agricultural land, and other reintegration support.
The event marks a significant step in India’s counterinsurgency and peace-building efforts in central India’s Bastar region.
