Scotland’s First Minister John Swinney acknowledged progress in reducing child poverty, with rates at their lowest in 30 years, but stressed the pace remains too slow.
Speaking at a Glasgow summit, he called eradicating child poverty a national mission and announced an expansion of the Fairer Futures Partnerships to five new areas, backed by £4 million in funding.
Additional £1.12 million in Adopt and Adapt funding will support non-participating councils.
Swinney emphasized whole family support and coordinated services across health, education, and housing, urging bold action including ending the UK’s two-child benefit cap and increasing the Scottish Child Payment.
