Over 20% of BME staff at Suffolk and North East Essex ICB reported harassment, despite progress in reducing discrimination.
A recent staff survey at the Suffolk and North East Essex Integrated Care Board found that over 20% of Black and minority ethnic (BME) staff reported harassment, bullying, or abuse from colleagues, despite improvements in overall discrimination rates.
While discrimination from managers dropped to 11% among BME staff—down from 17.39%—and to 4.7% among white staff, bullying incidents remained higher for BME employees.
Patient-related harassment of BME staff also rose to 17.6%.
Leaders acknowledged progress but stressed ongoing challenges, citing workplace stress and societal tensions.
Positive changes included narrowing recruitment gaps and reduced pressure on disabled staff to work while unwell.
