Olivia Selemaia and Hazel Ouwehand have been awarded the 2025 Yvette Williams Scholarships, recognizing their potential to represent New Zealand at major international events.
Selemaia, a 19-year-old weightlifter ranked among the world’s top eight in her category, earned silver at the 2025 IWF Junior and World Championships and will use the scholarship to support training and travel for the 2026 Commonwealth and 2028 Olympic Games.
Ouwehand, a swimmer with Olympic and Commonwealth Games experience, is ranked in the world top 10 in the 50m butterfly and will use her award to enhance training, including altitude camps.
Both athletes credit the financial support for enabling greater focus on performance and long-term planning.
The scholarship, established in 2014 by Sir Owen Glenn and managed by the New Zealand Olympic Committee, supports elite athletes preparing for global competitions, emphasizing talent, resilience, and character.
