North Wales police seized 30 e-bikes in a crackdown on youth-related anti-social behavior, using coded spray to track offenders.
North Wales Police have launched Operation Vroom in the Denbighshire coastal area to combat anti-social e-bike behavior, seizing 30 bikes and using forensic spray with unique codes to identify offenders. The effort, led by Sgt Iwan Hughes and supported by plain-clothed officers, targets high-speed riding, theft, and drug-related activity, especially among youth. Authorities emphasize that while standard e-bikes under 250 watts and 15.5 mph can be ridden by those 14 and older without license or insurance, modified or non-compliant models require registration and insurance. Residents in Abergele, Rhuddlan, and Prestatyn reported increased disruptions, prompting the crackdown. Police say public tips helped drive the operation, which is concluding but will continue with ongoing enforcement. Officials, including Police and Crime Commissioner Andy Dunbobbin, are pushing for new legislation to address safety and crime concerns linked to e-bikes.
