A new poll reveals deep partisan divides over firing people for celebrating assassinations online, with most Republicans supporting it, but not Democrats.
A recent RMG Research poll shows a stark partisan divide in the U.S. over whether people should be fired for celebrating an assassination online, with 51% of Americans in favor, driven largely by 80% of Republicans compared to 27% of Democrats.
Independents are split, with 32% supporting firings.
Similarly, 59% believe reporters and officials should face consequences, with strong Republican support (88%) and much lower Democratic backing (34%).
RMG Research President Scott Rasmussen attributes the gap to differing views on accountability and media bias, noting Republicans often see the media as adversarial.
The findings emerge amid debate over ABC's suspension of Jimmy Kimmel, though the reason remains unclear.
Rasmussen said these divisions are likely to endure due to entrenched political beliefs.
