Meta, SoftBank, IPS, TM, XLSmart, and NEC are building the Candle submarine cable system—a 24-fiber pair, 8,000 km optical cable linking Japan to Singapore through Taiwan, the Philippines, Indonesia, Malaysia, and Singapore.
Set for completion in 2028, the project aims to boost high-capacity, resilient connectivity across the Asia-Pacific region, supporting growing demand from 5G, AI, and IoT.
As one of the first 24-fiber pair cables in the region, Candle will enhance network diversity and digital resilience for over half a billion people.
The consortium highlights its role in advancing digital inclusion and economic opportunity, with each partner contributing to regional infrastructure, including Japan’s digital gateway status, Malaysia’s hub role, Indonesia’s connectivity, and NEC managing system integration.
The cable will link with other global networks to strengthen reliability and capacity.
