A 30-meter-wide sinkhole opened on Bangkok’s Samsen Road on Sept. 24, 2025, near an MRT construction site, disrupting utilities, forcing evacuations, and prompting an investigation into possible construction-related causes.
A large sinkhole, measuring about 30 meters wide and 50 meters deep, opened on Samsen Road in Bangkok’s Dusit district on September 24, 2025, near Vajira Hospital and an MRT Purple Line construction site.
The collapse, which occurred around 7 a.m., damaged infrastructure, severed utilities, and forced evacuations of nearby buildings, including a police station and hospital, though no injuries were reported.
Outpatient services at the hospital were suspended for two days, and traffic was halted between key intersections.
Officials believe the incident was linked to ongoing construction, possibly due to a tunnel leak or soil subsidence, and are investigating the cause.
With Bangkok in monsoon season, authorities are working urgently to stabilize the site and prevent further damage.
