Kerala approves ₹1,000 crore Judicial City in Kalamassery to relocate High Court and ease overcrowding.
The Kerala Cabinet has approved plans for a new Judicial City in Kalamassery, Ernakulam, to house the High Court and resolve space and environmental issues at its current central Kochi location.
The ₹1,000 crore project will use 27 acres of land from HMT to build a 12 lakh square foot complex with 61 courtrooms, offices, an auditorium, library, arbitration center, and sustainable features like rainwater harvesting.
Selected after a site inspection by senior judges and government officials, the location offers better connectivity.
While the government views the move as modernizing judicial infrastructure, the Kerala High Court Advocates' Association opposes the relocation.
The Home Department will lead implementation, with efforts underway to secure central government support.
