A Justice Department official questions if Sandy Hook plaintiff Aldenberg got undue financial gain from a $1.4B defamation verdict against Alex Jones.
A senior Justice Department official, Ed Martin Jr., has questioned whether retired FBI agent William Aldenberg received financial benefits for his role as a plaintiff in a $1.4 billion defamation lawsuit against Alex Jones, which stemmed from Jones’ false claims that the 2012 Sandy Hook shooting was a hoax.
Aldenberg, a first responder who faced harassment over the conspiracy theories, received about $120 million from the judgment.
Martin’s inquiry, part of a broader investigation into alleged government overreach, has drawn criticism from the victims’ families’ attorney, who called it politically motivated and an attempt to undermine the judgment.
The Justice Department has not commented, and Jones has appealed the verdict to the U.S. Supreme Court.
