India now requires Aadhaar-linked e-sign for voter deletion requests to prevent fraud, starting Sept. 2025.
The Election Commission of India has implemented an e-sign feature requiring Aadhaar-linked identity verification for voter deletion requests on its ECINet portal and app, effective September 2025.
This change, aimed at preventing unauthorized deletions like those in Karnataka’s Aland constituency, now mandates users to verify their identity via a CDAC portal using their Aadhaar number and OTP sent to a linked mobile number.
Previously, requests could be submitted with any phone number tied to an EPIC, raising security concerns.
The EC states deletions are not automatic and involve multiple verification steps, including opportunities for affected voters to respond.
The move follows a 2023 probe that found only 24 of 6,018 Aland deletion requests valid after physical checks.
The ECINet platform, launched in 2025, consolidates over 40 older portals, streamlining voter registration, updates, and deletion processes with oversight from local election officials.
La India ahora requiere la firma electrónica vinculada al Aadhaar para las solicitudes de eliminación de votantes para evitar el fraude, a partir de septiembre de 2025.
