Former AAP MLA Prakash Jarwal appeals 2024 conviction for abetting suicide of water tanker driver, citing harassment and extortion.
Former AAP MLA Prakash Jarwal has appealed his 2024 conviction for abetting the suicide of Dr. Rajendra Singh, a water tanker operator, along with two others.
The trial court found him guilty of abetment to suicide, extortion, criminal intimidation, and conspiracy, citing evidence including a diary and phone recordings detailing alleged harassment and forced payments.
The case stems from an FIR filed in 2020 by the doctor’s son, who claimed Jarwal, as a Delhi Jal Board member, demanded monthly payments and threatened to disrupt water operations.
Harish Jarwal was convicted only for criminal intimidation, and the High Court previously quashed that conviction.
Jarwal’s appeal has been transferred to a different bench due to a pending related petition, and sentencing remains pending, with the trial court barred from hearing arguments.
