Dewar’s denies dumping £200K whisky into the Clyde, says no environmental harm, SEPA investigating.
Dewar & Sons denies reports that £200,000 worth of whisky was dumped into the River Clyde due to a mechanical failure at its Glasgow plant on September 17.
The company states no whisky entered the river, no environmental or safety risks occurred, and it notified the Scottish Environment Protection Agency (SEPA), which is investigating.
SEPA is awaiting a report before deciding on any actions.
The brand, owned by Bacardi since 1998, produces award-winning blended Scotch and sold 2.9 million cases in 2021, though its pre-tax profit dropped 19% to £18 million by March 2024.
