A 15-year-old boy is charged with murdering two boys, 12 and 15, during a stabbing attack in Melbourne.
A 15-year-old boy has been charged with murder in the stabbing deaths of two young boys, 12-year-old Chol Achiek and 15-year-old Dau Akueng, who were attacked while walking home from basketball practice in Cobblebank, Melbourne, in early September. CCTV footage showed one boy being chased and assaulted, leading to both deaths at the scene. Police charged eight people in total, including seven teenagers and a 15-year-old already in custody on unrelated charges, with some facing charges related to each victim. The accused, including several minors whose identities are protected, were remanded in custody and are set to appear in court, with the youngest in children’s court. Police increased patrols to reassure residents. Dau and Chol, both basketball players from local clubs, were remembered as peaceful and well-liked by family and friends. In response, the Victorian government reactivated a youth justice expert working group focused on South Sudanese Australians.
