WeRide and Grab launch driverless shuttle service in Singapore’s Punggol, with passenger rides planned for early 2026.
WeRide, partnering with Grab, has launched its Ai.R autonomous vehicle service in Singapore’s Punggol district, deploying 11 driverless vehicles—including five-seater GXRs and eight-seater Robobuses—on two designated routes.
The service, approved by Singapore’s Land Transport Authority, began a familiarization phase with safety operators and aims to start passenger rides by early 2026.
Both vehicle types have passed Singapore’s Milestone 1 safety assessment, using advanced sensors to detect objects up to 200 meters away.
The initiative supports Singapore’s goal to integrate autonomous shuttles into public transit, improving access to amenities in underserved neighborhoods.
This marks WeRide’s first deployment in Singapore and Southeast Asia, joining Pony.ai, which is also launching services in Punggol with ComfortDelGro.
The city-state continues to serve as a key testing ground for global autonomous vehicle firms.
