U.S. Airman Keharron Lee Bogstad acquitted of three rape charges after prosecutors dropped case due to social media messages undermining consent claims.
U.S. Airman Keharron Lee Bogstad, 24, was found not guilty on three counts of rape at Northampton Crown Court after prosecutors decided not to present further evidence.
The decision followed a review of a complete log of social media messages between Bogstad and the complainant, only disclosed by the defense on the first day of trial.
Prosecutors stated the messages, which included discussions about consent and boundaries, undermined the case, making a guilty verdict unrealistic.
Judge Adrienne Lucking KC directed the jury to return unanimous not guilty verdicts.
Bogstad denied the charges, claiming he believed the woman consented during sado-masochistic sexual activity.
The complainant had previously provided screenshots of messages and deleted the app, saying she wanted to help.
The trial did not proceed to Bogstad’s testimony.
