A UK woman lost £9,000 in sentimental rings stolen from her Tenerife hotel room due to a broken safe and poor security.
Vicki Pike, a 51-year-old Nottingham mother, is warning travelers after her £9,000 collection of sentimental rings—engagement, wedding, and 50th birthday rings—were stolen during a Loveholidays trip to a Tenerife hotel in August 2025. She reported a faulty room safe that was never repaired, forcing her to leave valuables unsecured. On August 18, she awoke to find her rings missing and her handbag on an open balcony, with the door ajar due to lack of air conditioning. She claims hotel staff acknowledged multiple balcony break-ins and that police were promised but never sent. Though she reported the theft and contacted Loveholidays, the company said it is not responsible for hotel operations and advised her to claim through travel insurance. Pike, grieving the loss and struggling with sleep, plans a vow renewal with new rings. The hotel declined to comment.
