The Tasman Express subsea cable, linking Sydney and Auckland, is on track for 2028 completion, offering high-speed, low-latency connectivity for cloud and AI needs.
Southern Cross Cables Limited has made significant progress on the Tasman Express subsea cable, a 2,200-kilometer high-capacity link between Sydney and Auckland, scheduled for completion in 2028.
Designed to deliver up to 400 terabits per second with ultra-low latency, the cable will support growing demand for cloud computing, artificial intelligence, and digital services across Australia and New Zealand.
Featuring open system architecture and ASN branching units, it allows for future upgrades and potential additional landings.
The project has secured financing, finalized contracts, and established landing agreements on both sides of the Tasman, with strong pre-sales interest from cloud providers, telecoms, enterprises, and government agencies.
It will enhance network resilience, improve data center connectivity, and strengthen regional digital collaboration, complementing Southern Cross’s existing Pacific network.
