A Shenzhen court ended a trial of 21 Myanmar-linked gang members accused of fraud, murder, and drug trafficking targeting Chinese citizens.
A Shenzhen court concluded a four-day trial of 21 members of a criminal group linked to northern Myanmar, accused of crimes including telecom fraud, homicide, kidnapping, extortion, illegal gambling, prostitution trafficking, drug smuggling, and illegal detention.
The group, allegedly led by Bay Saw Chain and Bay Yin Chin, reportedly operated 41 compounds in Myanmar’s Kokang region since 2009, using armed protection to support illicit activities.
Prosecutors said the gang targeted Chinese citizens, causing six deaths, multiple injuries, and over 20 billion yuan in financial losses, with Bay Yin Chin also accused of involvement in trafficking and manufacturing about 11 tonnes of methamphetamine.
The trial, which included evidence presentation and cross-examination, drew over 100 attendees.
A verdict is pending.
