Romanian firm IULIUS invests €29M to clean 38 hectares in Constanța using bioremediation, part of a larger urban renewal plan.
Romanian developer IULIUS is investing 29 million euros in a large-scale bioremediation project to clean 38 hectares of contaminated land in downtown Constanța, formerly home to an oil terminal.
The initiative, part of an 800-million-euro urban regeneration plan, uses natural microorganisms to break down hydrocarbons in soil and groundwater, supported by physical barriers and filtration systems.
Collaborating with Romanian research institutes, IULIUS aims to transform the site into a mixed-use urban center with parks, cultural spaces, and green buildings, designed by Foster + Partners.
The project supports Constanța’s goal of becoming a year-round cultural and business destination while advancing environmental restoration in Europe.
