Norway’s Askeladd Vest subsea field has started production, supplying gas to the Hammerfest LNG plant, supporting 5% of Norway’s exports and 2% of EU demand.
Production has started at the Askeladd Vest subsea field in Norway’s Barents Sea, part of the Snøhvit development, with Equinor as operator.
The field, expected to yield about 15 billion cubic meters of recoverable gas, supports the Hammerfest LNG plant—the only LNG export facility in Northern Europe—helping supply roughly 5% of Norway’s gas exports and 2% of EU demand.
It ties into existing infrastructure and will sustain operations until 2028, when the Snøhvit Future project begins.
The project, completed on time with strong safety performance, involved over NOK 3 billion in investment and boosted local industry.
Key partners include Petoro, TotalEnergies, Vår Energi, and Harbour Energy.
