North Dakota may skip public searches for university presidents to save costs, per a proposed board change.
North Dakota universities may soon bypass public searches for new presidents under a proposed policy change by the State Board of Higher Education, aiming to cut costs tied to hiring, which can exceed $100,000.
The amendment, aligned with Senate Bill 2003, would let the board choose direct appointments or searches.
The board will also consider making interim leaders Brent Sanford, Dan Leingang, and Carmen Simone permanent.
The meeting is set for September 23 at Minot State University, and the policy clarifies that institutions, not the system, bear search expenses.
