A 9-month-old infant in Reno, Nevada, is recovering after testing positive for multiple controlled substances, including methamphetamine, benzodiazepines, and barbiturates, prompting a response from the Washoe County Sheriff’s Office.
The baby was rushed to Renown Regional Medical Center on September 20, 2025, requiring CPR before being admitted to the pediatric intensive care unit.
The child’s father, Dwayne Turner, was arrested and booked into the Washoe County Detention Facility on charges including child abuse, possession of controlled substances, and failure to register as a convicted person.
Authorities recovered drugs and paraphernalia during the investigation.
Turner initially fled the hospital but later returned and was interviewed.
Sheriff Darin Balaam called the case “tragic and disturbing,” praising the medical and law enforcement response.
