Kenyan airport workers strike over pay, job security, and transfer of safety operations.
Kenyan aviation workers, represented by the Kenya Aviation Workers Union, have issued a seven-day strike notice over grievances including alleged mismanagement by the Kenya Airports Authority (KAA) board, failure to convert over 500 contract workers to permanent roles, unpaid overtime, and the transfer of Ground Flight Safety operations to the Kenya Civil Aviation Authority without consultation.
The union demands the board’s resignation, back pay, and an end to the transfer process, warning of major disruptions at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport if demands are unmet.
The KAA has not commented, though its chairperson acknowledged a vacant HR position and denied ongoing consultations with KCAA, stating their cooperation aligns with international standards.
