John Rustad retains BC Conservative leadership with strong support after party-wide vote.
John Rustad, leader of the Conservative Party of British Columbia, has survived a leadership review, receiving 70.66% support from 1,268 party members across 93 electoral districts.
The vote, conducted by independent Returning Officer Mark Robertson, affirmed Rustad’s leadership amid internal challenges, including the departure of three caucus members and controversy over internal communications.
Members also approved his 11-point Leadership Pledge by 80.05%, which includes policies on drug use, gender transition restrictions, property rights, criminal justice, and electoral reforms.
The review followed the party’s narrow loss in the October 2024 provincial election and came after the cancellation of alleged fraudulent memberships.
Rustad described the outcome as a mandate to lead under a “common sense Conservative” platform.
