India launches new rail line and Vande Bharat train in Punjab, boosting investment and infrastructure.
Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw announced an 18-kilometer Rajpura-Mohali rail line in Punjab costing ₹443 crore and a proposed Vande Bharat train linking Firozpur Cantt, Bhatinda, Patiala, and Delhi.
He highlighted a surge in railway investment in Punjab from ₹225 crore (2009–14) to ₹5,421 crore today, crediting Minister of State Ravneet Bittu.
Defending GST, Vaishnaw said it replaced a complex pre-2014 tax system, reducing taxes on essentials like cement, sanitary pads, paint, and footwear, improving affordability and business efficiency.
He credited Prime Minister Modi and Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman for reforms driving economic progress and dismissed opposition criticism, noting public support in areas like RK Puram.
