Dr. Raj Bothra, wrongfully imprisoned by the FBI for 1,301 days, is the subject of a memoir and upcoming film based on his acquittal after 54 charges.
On September 23, 2025, actors Anupam Kher and Tusshar Kapoor unveiled 'USA v Raj,' a memoir by Padma Shri awardee Dr Raj Bothra, detailing his wrongful arrest by the FBI at age 79, 1,301 days of imprisonment on 54 federal charges, and eventual acquittal by a unanimous jury in June 2022.
The book, which recounts his struggle, resilience, and the support of his daughter, is being adapted into a film starring Kabir Bedi as Dr Bothra, with Emily Shah as his daughter and Ankur Bhatia in a supporting role.
Directed by Ravi K. Chandran and produced by Prashant Shah, the film is based on Bothra’s memoir and features a screenplay by Zill-e-Huma and others, with sound design by Oscar winner Resul Pookutty.
Filming will take place in India and the UK, and the book launch coincided with the film’s announcement at the 2025 Toronto International Film Festival.
