ASEAN's digital growth is accelerating, but infrastructure and policy gaps hinder progress, prompting calls for greater investment and cooperation.
The ASEAN region, with GDP surging fivefold since 2000 to over $4 trillion in 2024, is set for major digital transformation, according to a GSMA report launched at the Digital Nation Summit in Kuala Lumpur.
While digital adoption has grown, disparities in infrastructure, policies, and workforce skills persist, particularly between leading nations like Singapore and others.
The report calls for increased investment in 5G, fibre, and cloud networks, harmonized cross-border regulations on data, trade, and cybersecurity, and stronger regional and international cooperation to drive inclusive digital progress.
These efforts aim to unlock ASEAN’s full digital potential, supported by upcoming initiatives like the 2026 M360 ASEAN conference.
