Adolfo Cruz, 27, of Nacogdoches, was sentenced to two years in federal prison for unlawfully possessing a machine gun conversion device (MCD), which can convert a semi-automatic firearm into a fully automatic weapon.
The device was discovered during a traffic stop in Lufkin, Texas, in April 2024, after a firearm fell from Cruz’s vehicle.
A subsequent search of his cell phone revealed messages related to the purchase and sale of firearms and MCDs.
The case, prosecuted by the Department of Justice as part of Operation Take Back America, involved federal and local law enforcement agencies and underscores federal efforts to enforce strict regulations on automatic-fire firearm modifications.
