Vivere is redeveloping Edinburgh’s historic Lansdowne House into a £25 million extra care housing project, preserving its Victorian architecture.
Vivere, a new extra care developer, has acquired the 2.2-acre Lansdowne House site in Edinburgh from St George’s School to create a £25 million housing and care community.
The historic Victorian villa, built in 1875 and once known as Coltbridge Hall, will be restored and redeveloped into a heritage-sensitive extra care housing project, preserving key architectural features like high ceilings and plasterwork.
The redevelopment, led by Vivere in partnership with St George’s School and architect CDA Edinburgh, includes converting the main building into apartments with ground-floor communal spaces and replacing modern structures with new homes that reflect the area’s history.
The project aims to support aging in place and aligns with Scotland’s goals for healthier, longer lives.
A joint planning application will be submitted, with construction set to begin later in 2025.
A community event is scheduled for October 2, and proceeds from the sale will help St George’s School upgrade its Ravelston campus for girls’ education.
