Venezuela deploys 60 military units to Sucre State near Trinidad and Tobago in Operation Cumanagoto 200 to combat smuggling and deter foreign military threats.
Venezuela has deployed 60 military units to Sucre State, including the Paria Peninsula, near Trinidad and Tobago, launching Operation Cumanagoto 200 to combat alleged smuggling of fuel, weapons, and humans across the Gulf of Paria. Defense Minister Vladimir Padrino Lopez said the move, ordered by President Nicolás Maduro, targets criminal and terrorist groups, especially near Mapuro, with the closest point between the two nations about eight miles apart. The operation follows warnings of military responses if foreign forces used Trinidad and Tobago against Venezuela, amid heightened regional tensions and large-scale military exercises involving troops, jets, and missiles. Trinidad and Tobago has not yet responded officially.
