A UK man was acquitted in the 2024 theft of a £270,000 Banksy print stolen during a 30-second gallery break-in.
James Love, a 54-year-old builder from Essex, was acquitted at Kingston Crown Court of involvement in the September 2024 theft of a £270,000 Banksy print, *Girl With Balloon*, from London’s Grove Gallery.
The artwork, part of a £1.5 million exhibition of 13 Banksy pieces, was stolen during a 30-second break-in captured on CCTV, with Larry Fraser, 48, seen breaking in and taking the print.
Prosecutors alleged Love drove to the gallery, coordinated with Fraser, and helped hide the artwork, citing CCTV showing Love assisting Fraser.
Love denied involvement, stating he only learned of the theft after seeing Fraser with the painting and claiming he was misled.
He later guided police to the artwork’s recovery location in the Isle of Dogs using a map and instructions provided during his first court appearance.
Fraser had previously pleaded guilty to the burglary and is set to be sentenced.
The painting was recovered by the Metropolitan Police’s Flying Squad shortly after the theft.
