A UK lorry driver admitted causing serious injury in a 2024 crash due to unsafe lane change, receiving a community order and driving ban.
Michael Moore, a 62-year-old lorry driver from West Cumbria, admitted causing serious injury by dangerous driving after a 2024 crash on the A591 near Kendal during darkness.
He changed lanes without signaling or checking his mirrors, leading to a collision that seriously injured a 27-year-old driver, who missed 28 weeks of work and suffered lasting psychological effects.
Moore, who had a 30-year clean record, claimed a momentary lapse caused the accident, though dashcam footage showed he failed to check his blind spot.
He stayed at the scene and assisted the victim.
At Carlisle Crown Court, Judge Michael Fanning acknowledged Moore’s clean record and cooperation but stressed the need for driver vigilance.
Moore was sentenced to a 12-month community order, 200 hours of unpaid work, a two-year driving ban, and a mandatory retest before driving again, though he stated he does not wish to return to driving.
