Six-month-old Rory Fletcher, critically ill with heart failure, awaits a life-saving transplant as UK donor numbers drop.
Six-month-old Rory Fletcher from Knutsford, Cheshire, is critically ill with dilated cardiomyopathy and on the urgent heart transplant waiting list at Newcastle’s Freeman Hospital, where she’s been in intensive care since birth, sustained by a mechanical heart pump.
Her parents, Becks and Toby, are urging the public to consider organ donation as the UK’s transplant waiting list hits a record 8,000, with a 2% drop in deceased donors last year.
The family hopes for a donor heart to allow Rory to go home, hear her laugh, and live a normal life.
Over the past decade, more than 12,000 people in the UK have died or been removed from the waiting list before receiving a transplant, while over 44,000 lives have been saved or improved.
Organ Donation Week is approaching, and NHS Blood and Transplant emphasizes that one donor can save up to nine lives.
Rory Fletcher, de seis meses de edad, en estado crítico con insuficiencia cardíaca, espera un trasplante para salvar su vida a medida que disminuye el número de donantes en el Reino Unido.
