Seven men are scheduled to stand trial in 2026 on charges of violent disorder following protests outside The Bell Hotel in Epping, Essex, where asylum seekers are housed.
The demonstrations began after Hadush Gerberslasie Kebatu, a 38-year-old asylum seeker, was charged with the sexual assault of a 14-year-old girl.
At Chelmsford Crown Court, Judge Jamie Sawyer divided the defendants into two groups for separate trials on March 23 and June 1, 2026.
All defendants pleaded not guilty to charges including violent disorder, criminal damage, and assaults on police during events on July 17.
Lee Gower and Aaron Elles were remanded in custody, while others were bailed.
Elles, who previously pleaded guilty, will have his plea reviewed on October 16.
An eighth defendant, Luke Fleming, was also bailed until a hearing on October 6.
